Project Summary:
In August 2020, Miami’s Biscayne Bay experienced a tragic event that left more than 27-thousand water-based species dead along the city shores. The reasons were septic and sewage leaks, storm water neglect, and climate change that led to low dissolved oxygen in the water. While exploring the larger impacts of the “Fish Kill”, walks along the Bay became frequent. Conversations with the Bay is an excerpt from a series of audio/visual field recordings I captured in and around Biscayne Bay months prior to and post the ‘Fish Kill’ event. This particular audio-visual symphony included elements of wind, water, and light from a full moon. In the darkness of the night, I was put into a meditative state by the unique patterns of nature. What I saw, heard, and felt was a communication by a celestial object thousands of miles away with the waters only steps away. An SOS via electrical signals. The conversation was a humble reminder of our place not only amongst the stars but also our role on earth.
